Jeffords Rules
I hear requests from folks all the time about this rule and that. How many hours can a minor of 11½ years old work if school is out on vacation? When are meal penalties waived if you come in before the general crew call? and so on. Well the answer differs for each crew member who should get a copy of the contract for their craft and learn it! But as a quick reference an Assistant Director named Bob Jeffords began putting out a quick reference guide that has benefited Producers, UPM's, and ADs for many years. Since his passing in 2002 others at the DGA have taken on the task of updating the guide.
Although distributed to DGA members through the Guild, I believe that there is no harm, and in fact everyone can benefit from having a copy in their kit. So I am making the latest 2019 version available here.
The Jeffords Rules are Hollywood-based Film Production Guild & Union Rules arranged by subject. They include contract information from AFTRA, DGA, IATSE, SAG, and TEAMSTERS as well as other valuable information. Posted as an extract, they are intended as a quick reference guide only. They are not intended for use when a contract is available.
