Joint IATSE Statement calling for Strike Deadline

Joint Statement from the Locals – October 13, 2021

“Fear is a Reaction, Courage is a Decision” Winston Churchill

Early this morning President Loeb issued a Media Alert setting a deadline for the employers to make a deal that averts a strike. That strike would begin at 12:01 am PT on Monday, October 18th. The time to reach an agreement is now.

Things are moving very quickly, and we are doing everything we can to make sure information is shared with members in real time. We are also still in negotiations mode even as we prepare for a strike. Messages may change or be delayed but it is our intention to be as transparent and direct as possible.

We know you have many concerns and questions, and we are compiling a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document to try and provide as much information as we can. This document will be available tomorrow and updated periodically. Meanwhile resist the urge to share unverified information from sources other than your local or the Hollywood Bargaining Committee.

Finally, we have been made aware that in response to the strike announcement, some employers are scheduling unplanned sixth and seventh days and additional overtime. It is telling that during a negotiation focused on unsafe hours and other abusive working conditions, some AMPTP companies are intentionally choosing to risk the health and safety of our members to serve their own selfish interests.

If you feel unsafe or unable to perform services due to the long hours and extra workdays we strongly encourage you to report this to the appropriate Studio Safety Hotline immediately and to request a ride or a room at the end of each day to ensure your safety and the safety of others on the road.

As the details of the Basic Agreement negotiations are fluid and are subject to change from moment to moment, the 13 Hollywood locals have agreed to keep the details of the process in the bargaining room for strategic purposes.  We understand that there is a great demand for updates and details on the negotiations, and when the time is appropriate, those

communications will come directly from the bargaining committee.

For now, the negotiators for both sides need the room to maneuver at the bargaining table.

In the interim, please disregard any information you read in the press as it is not necessarily an accurate representation of what is actually occurring.

We will continue to meet again tomorrow in an effort to reach an agreement.  All specific details of the negotiation will be made available to you, the members, just as soon as they are agreed to by both sides and can be released.
