How 200 historic Hollywood backdrops were saved from the dumpster

Well worth the read, especially in light of the fact that backdrops of this nature have become a thing of the past first being replaced by green and blue screens and now LED Walls.

That said, these might still have value as an inexpensive alternative to thru window backgrounds on interior sets!
